Workshop description:
This workshop, sponsored at no charge by the Central Alberta Cluster of the United Church of
Canada, is designed for all those who are seeking some positive ways of framing and living
with today’s challenges—personal, relational, political, or related to our faith.
“Weaving Hope and Story: Building Resilience for ourselves and others” will help us frame
strategies for ourselves when we encounter setbacks or challenges. Employing the guiding
metaphor of “weaving” (as in a Celtic knot), we will examine how our own stories lift us up and
inspire us and can hold us back. We will consider ways that our personal stories can intersect
with the Holy. All are welcome.

Facilitator:
Rev. Dr. Geoffrey Simmins is an ordained United church minister whose calling is pastoral
care and teaching. He served as the hospital ministry coordinator for Chinook Winds between
2020 and 2024 and completed Doctor of Ministry from the San Francisco Theological
Seminary with a thesis focusing on training volunteers for hospital visiting. He regularly leads
workshops helping congregations develop pastoral care teams. This workshop is focused on
individuals, helping people become aware of hope and resilience as strategies for life. When
we learn how to apply strategies of hope and resilience in our lives, we can find balance and
happiness—and share these insights with others.

Format:
The workshop will be held on Zoom. Participants will receive a link when they register.
Thursday, February 6 from 7:00 - 8:30 PM
